Every year, journalists, politicians, authors and newsmakers from our Pacific Northwest community and around the nation come together at the Crosscut Festival to take a hard look at the people, policy and events that shape our lives. And what has shaped our lives more in the past couple of years than COVID-19?
Not only has the festival transformed itself because of the pandemic, the virus will be a topic discussed in a number of our sessions — including a conversation with Anthony Fauci. Our nation’s top doctors, thinkers and leaders are still working to get us through this pandemic, and we want to bring you the best information about staying healthy and navigating what comes next at the Crosscut Festival. It Changed Everything
Anthony Fauci, chief medical adviser to the president and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, reflects on the life we left behind, the mistakes we made along the way and the world we face as we move ahead. Fauci will join us virtually on May 5.
Trevor Bedford
Dr. Trevor Bedford is a professor working in the vaccines and infectious disease division at Fred Hutch. Bedford uses powerful computers and complex statistical methods to study the rapid spread and evolution of viruses, including those that cause COVID-19, influenza, Ebola and Zika. He co-developed an open-source platform called Nextstrain that provides a continually updated view of publicly available viral genomic data alongside powerful analytic and visualization tools. He will join us in person May 7 at Seattle University as part of the Crosscut Festival.
The Health of Our Health Care
The COVID-19 pandemic is breaking the U.S. health care system — but that’s only a symptom of the underlying disease. Pulmonologist and health policy expert Vin Gupta, Washington State Hospital Association President and CEO Cassie Sauer and NPR science desk reporter and editor Will Stone will discuss this issue in person May 7 at Seattle University.
