The Great Northwest Recipe

The Great Northwest Recipe takes a local approach to the concept of the PBS hit series The Great American Recipe, featuring influential guests with a tie to the Pacific Northwest sharing their signature recipes and meaningful stories with our local KCTS 9 audience. In-person attendance included tasting bites of all of our guests' signature recipes!

About the speakers: 

Rachel Belle is the creator, host and co-producer of Your Last Meal, a James Beard Award finalist for Best Podcast, and a national Edward R Morrow award winning news radio feature reporter and talk show contributor at KIRO Newsradio in Seattle, Washington. Her food writing has been published in spots like Lucky Peach, Eater, The Stranger and Seattle Weekly and she has appeared on The Cooking Channel (as a taco expert!), Discovery Investigates, Lifetime and PBS. 

Nikki Tomiano-Allemand was a contestant on the PBS show The Great American Recipe. She was raised in the Seattle area but now lives in Boise with her husband and two sons, where she runs her own meal prep delivery service for other busy parents. Her cooking combines her family’s Italian roots with her Pacific Northwest upbringing. Her most cherished recipes are those passed down from her relatives, including her grandfather, who taught her many of his favorite dishes. Nikki’s love of world travel has inspired her to infuse a variety of international influences in her cooking. To give back to the community, Nikki hosts an annual Thanksgiving dinner for families in need and works with a program that helps local youth receive culinary and life skills training and job placement in the food industry. 

Molly Moon Nietzel Ice cream makes people happy. It’s the simple truth that led Molly Moon Neitzel to open up her first scoop shop in 2008. Once a feisty kid with a big sweet tooth and even bigger plans to change the world, Molly Moon’s Homemade Ice Cream is the product of Molly’s desire to create a vibrant, welcoming community gathering place for Seattlites. Molly’s philosophy is that the shared love of ice cream brings people together for the common goal of pure happiness – and that’s a pretty big deal. As a lover of music, devotee of sustainability, and tireless advocate for worker’s rights, delicious ice cream isn’t the only thing she aims to serve. Now a mom herself, Molly believes the childhood joy of ice cream has no age limit, and aims to spread happiness by serving flavors with locally-sourced ingredients and building a locally-fueled community.

DarNesha Weary is a Seattle native with over twenty years of experience in the nonprofit sector, where her mission has been to serve others, build community, and make a positive impact by challenging racism, promoting acceptance of people from different backgrounds, raising awareness, and using her voice to address hate and to promote kindness. Dar’Nesha is the co-owner along with her husband of one of the fastest growing coffee and nonprofit organizations called Black Coffee Northwest. Darnesha is also the founder and CEO of the Lets Do Work consulting group where she partners with senior leaders across organizations and companies to develop organization-specific plans for advancing DEI initiatives and goals.
