Isa Does It!

Isa Chandra Moskowitz is a vegan cookbook author, best known for an awesome Veganomicon and for making vegan food that doesn’t skimp on complexity or tastiness. Her Smlove pie, which I made last year for Pie Day, is the richest of all the pies, vegan or non. Moskowitz will be here to share a recipe and talk about her Post Punk Kitchen website and about being a vegan in Omaha.
Go Health Yourself!

Dorothea Lasky
ACT Theatre, Thurs. 11/21 at 7:30 p.m., $15 general/$5 students or under 25
It’s a great week for the Seattle Arts and Lectures Series. First, there was last week's visit from the incredibly charming Madhur Jaffrey and now the launch of SAL's poetry series. Dorothea Lasky is the author of three full-length collections of poetry, all praised for their candor and wit. You can read one of her poems here, or just go and trust that her reading will be a treat.
In A World…
The Crest Cinema Centre, nights at 9:40, $3
Movies at the Crest are always $3, and lucky for us, usually worth much more. The theater is currently showing In A World, for which writer, director and star Lake Bell won a screenwriting award at Sundance, chronicles the ambitions of a voice coach struggling to break into the oft male-dominated world of movie trailer voiceovers. The film has been hailed as provocative and hilarious, with a cast includes comic actors Nick Offerman, Dmetri Martin, Jeff Garlin AND Tig Notaro.
The Royal Tenenbaums
Central Cinema, Fri. 11/22- Tues. 11/26 at 9:30 p.m., $6
There’s so much to recommend seeing this excellent little movie on a big screen: Bill Murray’s beard, Wes Anderson's signature composition, the song “These Days” filling a dark, hushed room. Revisit a modern-day classic (which I can’t believe is more than 10 years old!).
Comedy Womb
Rendezvous, Tues. 11/26 at 8 p.m, $5
Seattle-based Comedy Womb is a woman-centered (though not all-female) open mic comedy night, with special guest spots and a new, lovable emcee each week. The bits are five minutes max, and while there are sure to be some clunjkers and a few moments of hollow half-laughs, it’s inspiring to be on hand for the birth of new material, and exciting when genuine moments of brilliance and inventiveness emerge.
