A dozen or so years ago, at a party just after the bar mitzvah of one of my elder son's best friends, there was an Italian soda stand set up in a corner of Seattle's Sunset Club.
There, I found my younger son, Johnny, probably age 6 at the time, deep into his third large soda of a still-young evening.
"But Dad!" he said when I told him to lay off. "It's totally free! You don't have to pay anything!"
To this day, when I run into my friend Stafford, the host, I slap him on the back and say, "Totally free! You don't have to pay anything!," and we both burst out laughing.
Crosscut is our own wonderful Italian soda stand here in the community, except that you don't get a sugar crash consuming it. But the thing is, there is no Stafford in this story or, rather, we are all Stafford now.
Crosscut is totally free, but that doesn't mean it costs nothing.
So please, be like Stafford. Pay for the soda. Give to Crosscut, so we can all drink up!
