Comedian and Daily Show contributor Demetri Martin will be in town doing two stand-up shows in the $30 range tonight. However, he’ll also be at Elliott Bay (for FREE!), ruminating on his new book Point Your Face at This: Drawings. Just the “Look Inside!” preview on Amazon made me laugh out loud.
Vox Mod Album Release Party
Vermillion, Friday 3/29 at 9, FREE
Local electronic artist Vox Mod (Scot Porter) returns from a west coast tour to celebrate the release of his first full-length album SYN-ÆSTHETIC. People often describe his music as spacey — and they’re totally right, in the best possible way.
Ginger and Rosa
SIFF Uptown, Friday- Sunday night at 7 and 9:15, $10
Set in 1962 London, this coming-of-age tale chronicles the friendship of two teenage girls (Elle Fanning and Alice Englert), set against the backdrop of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Annette Benning and Oliver Platt play supporting roles.
Yoga at St. Mark’s
St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral, Saturday 3/30 at 9 a.m. First class FREE.
On a weekend of such religious celebration, stretch and de-stress inside the ever-lovely St. Mark’s, without any feelings of spiritual obligation or guilt.
Talcum
Chop Suey, Saturday 3/30, doors at 9, $5
Rare 45s and baby powder floors make this a dance party to remember, even for those not keen on dancing. It’s definitely not your typical Barry White tunes, then again, it’s not your typical dance party attendees either. The ratio of mutton chops and fifties frocks has never been higher.
APRIL Small Press Expo
Richard Hugo House. Saturday 3/30, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., FREE
APRIL, the Seattle festival celebrating local small presses, is in its third year. Events take place around town all week and this expo will be the culmination of it all: browse and buy rare gems, hear authors read and listen to music inspired by our local independent literature scene.

Kraken Pop-up
Grub, Monday 4/1 from 5-9 p.m., $5-15
Three great local chefs collaborate to bring the world congee (rice porridge!) for one night only. While rice porridge may not sound especially dazzling, this is comfort food at its finest, with rumored extras such as duck confit and the promise of a full bar.
Maria Semple
Town Hall, Wednesday 4/3 at 7:30, $5
Recent Seattleite Maria Semple will be discussing her immensely popular (and eye-catching) 2012 novel Where’d You Go, Bernadette? When her daughter cashes in on a promised trip to Antarctica, anxious mom Bernadette, disappears, setting in motion a search and hilarious musings on family dysfunction.
