Crosscut's new model for local online journalism is nonprofit and member-supported. Memberships start at $35 a year and there are tiered benefits at higher levels. It's easy to join online, and I hope you will do so. We can't produce this kind of in-depth, open-minded news and analysis without your support.
We have always met our goals in these drives — thank you all very much. I'm adding one extra day to the drive, today, in hopes that we will do so again. We have $3,500 to go, so please be generous. Members are the most important means of support we have, and an important indicator to other contributors such as foundations. Donations are tax-deductible.
Here's a nice note from Crosscut Member Bob Anderson, wishing us well. Perhaps it echoes some of your sense of Crosscut's value for our town:
"I continue to make Crosscut one of the first tasks of my day. The depth, relevance and thoughtfulness of the articles make Crosscut a valuable source of information and stimulation. It’s a healthy addiction in my mind – connecting with the crosscutting commentaries on issues of the day. Cheers for getting this important community and regional resource going. Keep it up!"
Membership brings you many benefits, along with helping Crosscut to do a better job in reporting. Among them are invitations to Members-free events, ticket discounts, and other chances to meet some of the town's movers and makers. The Member page details these many benefits of Membership.
Crosscut is a nonprofit organization driven by a community mission, not by commercial considerations. Crosscut Public Media exists "to produce, find, and amplify the best journalism in the region each day," and to be a neutral forum for thoughtful commentary that moves readers and actors toward constructive solutions. We also fill niches, such as arts coverage, that are being jettisoned as mainstream media run out of advertising to support such topics.
If you agree and are enjoying the way Crosscut enriches your life countless times each month, please be generous, and please enlist a friend or two to help underwrite Crosscut's task of "keeping true journalism alive."
Thanks for all you do for Crosscut and for our region, especially by being steady and critical readers. It's a privilege to write for such an informed and committed audience. And thanks for your patience during all my pleadings these past weeks!
