There are something like 5,000 farmers markets across the country. Seattle is fortunate to have about a dozen of them.
But we've also got the granddaddy of them all, the Pike Place Market, and this weekend its farmers, merchants and artisans are putting on the Pike Place Market Artisan Food Festival. The beneficiaries are the market's human service agencies, including the Medical Clinic, the Senior Center, Child Care & Preschool, and the Downtown Food Bank.
Demos by chefs from the various restaurants in the Market on the hour Saturday and Sunday afternoons, along with book signings and live music. A wine garden, a beer garden, a coffee station, and a booth for the Slow Food Seattle, part of the movement that champions these sorts of events around the country.
