For readers who can't get enough of the Amanda Knox sex-and-murder saga, there's a new book by a Seattle writer, Candace Dempsey, called Murder in Italy. It's the third Knox book this year, but the first one by a Seattle writer, published in paperback under the Berkley True Crime imprint.
(For those who have been living under rocks: Seattle native Knox, then 20, was convicted of killing her roommate, Meredith Kercher, in the Italian college town of Perugia on Halloween night, 2007.)
Dempsey, who was an editor for MSN, a travel writer and a food blogger ("Italian Woman at the Table") until bitten by the Knox bug, reads from her 332-page book tonight (June 7). She promises to tell secrets not revealed at Knox's murder trial and to serve her Calabrian mother's Italian orange cake and chocolate biscotti.
The book makes no secret of its sympathy for Knox, but is apparently unconnected to the formidable legal and PR apparatus that the Knox's Seattle family has set up to get the verdict overturned or her 26-year prison term reduced.
