We're celebrating Crosscut's third anniversary next Tuesday (May 18), and Crosscut Annual Members are invited to the festivities. You must be a member to come to this free event, and we ask you to make a reservation beforehand. Not a member? Easy to join now, by making a tax-deductible annual membership donation. If you are a member and haven't sent in an RSVP yet, it's easy: RSVP@crosscut.com, or call 206-382-6137. You can also take your chances and come and join at the door.
The party will be Tuesday, May 18, 5-8 pm, at Tilikum Place Cafe , 407 Cedar, in the north end of Belltown just south of Denny. We'll have the lovely restaurant to ourselves, serving you a complimentary drink and hors d'oeuvres by the cafe's fine chef Ba Culbert. There will be short programs at 6 pm and 7:15 pm. Members come free. In addition to meeting fellow Members, you can mingle with Crosscut writers and staffers, board members, and assorted VIPs. Should be fun. Bring along a friend who can join at the door.
Short pitch. Crosscut is a nonprofit devoted to producing journalism for the public good. We depend significantly on the support of annual members, much as public radio does. Memberships are as low as $35 a year. Benefits, in addition to helping Crosscut to thrive and improve, include new-member coffees, membership parties like the one next week, discounted tickets, and other privileges at Crosscut public events.
Crosscut began publishing in the spring of 2007, making us one of the earliest examples of online, local, in-depth journalism. We were responding to the sharp decline in local mainstream journalism, the strong shift to the Web as a delivery system, and the need to improve local journalism. We estimate about 100,000 who read Crosscut fairly regularly, and it's an influential audience with high standards.
We've just received a major grant from a local foundation that will help support our venture for the next two years and this foundation is matching all membership donations on a dollar-for-dollar basis during the coming year. There's another reason to join: Your gift is automatically doubled! I'll hope to meet many of you at the party.
