Admirably current, the U.W. School of Law is holding an expert roundtable Tuesday afternoon (3/30) on the hot topic, "Is health-care-reform constitutional?" The event is 4-5:30 pm (maddeningy academic hours) in room 138 of the Gates Law School Building on the main campus. There is an overflow room (room 127), since the crowd will probably be large.
Hugh Spitzer, an expert on constitutional issues, will moderate the panel, which will include Stewart Jay from the Law School, who tells Seattlepi.com he thinks the McKenna lawsuit is "close to frivolous," and John McKay, the former U.S. Attorney toppled by the Bush administration and now teaching at Seattle University's School of Law. Joining them will be Sallie Sanford and Kathryn Watts.
How's this issue settling out, after all the uproar over Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna's signing on with other A-G's for the challenge? Probably won't get to the Supreme Court, since it's moot until the mandatory elements take effect in 2013; small but not remote chance of succeeding; probably a one-week wonder in media terms. But, we're still in that week!
