The 2009-2010 Hugo Literary Series wraps up Friday (March 19) at UW's Kane Hall, with an evening of spoken word and song in which four artists will riff on their personal Laws of Attraction. Richard Hugo House has commissioned new work to be unveiled that evening by Brooklyn essayist Phillip Lopate, Seattle’s “Electra” star Marya Sea Kaminski, Copper Canyon poet Emily Warn, and the Seattle rock band Happy Hour Hero.
The artists will all respond in their different styles and voices to a single prompt with the culminating questions, In love, lust and obsession, what are your laws of attraction? When and how do you break them? And when won’t you?
A party with food, drink, music, and book-signings follows the event. Classes with featured artists will be offered at 1 pm Saturday (March 20), on Capitol Hill at Hugo House (1634 11th Ave.), Seattle’s blessed oasis and Parnassus for writers and readers. Details at 206-322-7030.
Warning: The preceding event in the series, “Gods and Monsters,” sold out; tickets will likely go fast.
