In our day a candidate can speak sincerely, yet one ad can argue breach of trust or "flip-flop" and call for the guillotine to fall. What if negative ads had controlled the actual guillotines, events in Tolkien's world or the views of classic philosophers? We may not have liked such a history ... (see ads below).
