The Associated Press reported today on the list of bloggers selected to cover the Democratic National Convention. One from each state will form a "state blogging corps" who will be seated with state delegations during the convention in Denver this August. The group blog HorsesAss, led by "accidental activist" David Goldstein, was chosen from Washington state, and the choice for Oregon was BlueOregon, "the water cooler around which Oregon progressives will gather," another group blog. From Idaho, the choice is group blog 43rdStateBlues, which claims it is "blue-shifting the Gem state, one blog entry at a time."
The only Northwest blog that looks like blogs used to look before they became regular 'ol professional Web sites is — and you can get its homegrown feel from the name — Celtic Diva's Blue Oasis. It's hosted by Blogger, just like your mom's blog. Celtic Diva will represent Alaska. When the news hit her e-mail in-box this morning, she posted this gush to her blog:
I am so honored that I will get to provide the blog view for Alaskans directly from the Democratic Convention!!!!! I know that this is a great opportunity and also a great responsibility and I take it VERY seriously.Celtic Diva has a little help, in the form of two other writers who post to her blog, but presumably, there's space for only one blogger at the convention.
Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands also have blog representation, as well as a blogger who will write on behalf of "Democrats Abroad Argentina," appropriately drawing upon a cognate (sounds the same and is spelled similarly) for the slang term "yankee" for the name: "yanqui mike."
Bloggers, if you weren't on the list, there's hope for you yet: The committee will also hand out credentials to local, state, and national bloggers of the political persuasion as part of a "general blogger pool."
